Meet Leianna, she will be receiving an Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy. At a young age, Leianna saw a future in the medical field but was not sure in what capacity.

It was not until her husband experienced severe injuries that it became clear that she had a future in occupational therapy. In 2015, a motorcycle accident left her husband with a severe traumatic brain injury and fractured knee.

At the time of the accident they resided in New Orleans, Louisiana. Because her husband was active military, they were relocated to 圣安东尼奥 to receive medical attention at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Limited in mobility, Leianna was by her husband’s side as he recovered and attended therapy sessions. Eager to do her part in helping speed up recovery, Leianna started learning ways she could continue therapy practices from home.

“I didn’t want the therapy to stop after two hours. I began to observe the therapist and ask for guidance on what I can do to help at home. Little did I know, it was occupational therapy all along,” 她说.

Leianna has excelled academically during her time at St. 菲利普的大学. She is currently a member of the National Society of 领导 and Success, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, 并担任. St. 菲利普的2020 - 2021.

This will be Leianna’s second post-secondary degree, she also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Theatre from the University of New Orleans. Although she did not pursue a career in theater, she continues to have a passion for the arts. She and her husband are parents to two girls.
