SPC Debuts New 社区 Garden

St. Philip’s 大学 hosted A Taste of the Garden to celebrate the restoration of the MLK Campus 社区 Garden. The garden project was funded by the $20,000 award from the Home Depot® Retool Your School competition in April. St. Philip’s 大学 was one of 30 Historically Black 大学 和 Universities (HBCUs) to win this year’s competition. 

The event debuted the new gazebo 和 garden bed which displayed a bountiful harvest of beets, 生菜, 胡萝卜, 卷心菜, 和 other vegetables. The event also featured door prizes, a scavenger hunt, 和 light refreshments picked, 准备, 和 served by Culinary Arts students.

The SPC 社区 Garden is a civic engagement project that started in Fall 2015. The project was temporarily stalled due to the COVID-19 p和emic. Now restored, the garden will continue to be a space where people can gather in community to learn more about planting, 园艺, 草本植物, 和 agriculture.
