Meet Rebekah, a 圣安东尼奥 native receiving an Associate of Arts in Teaching. After entering motherhood 和 spending 14 years working in cosmetology, Rebekah realized she was longing for a different career path.

“One day I was volunteering for my son’s class 和 I realized the classroom is where I wanted to be,” 她说.

Rebekah decided to leave her job as a hairstylist 和 Cosmetology Education Program Director to pursue teaching. She chose to attend St. Philip’s 大学 as it was where her father had recently received an Electrical Trades Certificate.

As an honor student 和 member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, she finds purpose 和 motivation through the support of her husb和, parents 和 two children. “My husb和 has been the biggest support through this, if it was not for him, I would not be able to stop working 和 focus on school,” 她说.

In July, Rebekah will begin the TechTeach Across Texas Program at Texas Tech University. TechTeach Across Texas is a fast-track, one-year teacher preparation program, that combines intense clinical experiences with applicable online courses in district-based partnerships around the state. Upon completion of the program, she will receive a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Rebekah hopes to become a special education teacher for elementary school grade levels 和 strives to obtain a master's degree in applied behavior analysis.
